SHUSHU/TONG was founded by Chinese designers Lei Liushu and Jiang Yutong, both graduates of the London College of Fashion. They previously interned with independent designer brands Simone Rocha and Gareth Pugh before establishing SHUSHU/TONG in Shanghai in 2015. The brand name comes from their nicknames, Shu Shu and Tong Tong.
The brand seeks to challenge traditional notions of femininity, skillfully blending rebellion with softness. Through extensive exploration of fabric forms, elements full of girlish charm—such as bows, ruffles, tulle, frills, embroidery, and pearls—are deconstructed and reimagined, redefining their vision of womanhood.
Each season, SHUSHU/TONG conveys this modern, assertive yet romantic girlishness through different sartorial languages, revealing the multifaceted identities and personas of contemporary women. Yet at its core, the SHUSHU/TONG girl remains unchanged: beneath her youthful, ethereal appearance, there is always a hidden streak of quiet defiance.
