Yu-mei Huang is a Taiwanese-born London-based knit craft maker. Knitting techniques play an important role in her works. She starts from the material with playful approaches and focuses on the garment as an object associated with art therapy. Knitting Industry Creative has described her work as “Bold and Funky Sculpture ”, standing in between textile art and fashion, she combines unconventional yarns valuing craftsmanship and allowing different materials to construct her practice. She focuses on textile manipulation and her work is characterized by vibrant colours and three-dimensional textures which are reinvented from traditional knitting techniques. Her works push the boundaries between body and space and redefine the relationship between garments and what we are. Graduated from the Royal College of Art Womenswear Knitwear Master program and her works have been exhibited worldwide in Taiwan, China, Japan, UK. In 2017 and 2019 her collections are selected as the finalist in Fashion Scout and showcasing on London Fashion Week.
